ROUND LAKE – An eye-opening film “The Long Shadow” will be shown at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 22 in Room A of the Round Lake Area Library.
The film and a discussion after the film will focus on the history of racism in America. The film is being sponsored by Race Amity Community Endeavor to encourage understanding.
Two white Southern filmmakers trace their families’ slave-owning pasts and America’s history of oppression to show how racism still affects the soul of the nation. The film is a disturbing story about the lingering human cost of ignorance, intolerance and inaction in the U.S., casting a long shadow over our national identity and imperfect democracy.
One of the filmmakers’ “highest hope for ‘The Long Shadow’ is that it widely and correctly educates white Americans about the relentless systemic racism against African Americans.” The filmmaker also hopes the film helps to start a national conversation. “
